“Under the influence” is a euphemism for substance abuse, but it seems constraining to limit the term so narrowly. Free “under the influence” signs and a march are in the works. Freedom to be broadly defined. Oh, and while we’re at it: the freedom to vote. After all, this is America!

What does it mean to be above the influence in the broad sense? Is that simply a euphemism for hypnotized, spellbound? Is being under the influence ever a sign of pragmatism? When is it a sign of weakness?
