An American Tail

J has called it his favorite movie. I haven’t seen it in years, but I remember the day I saw it vividly.

I was in the first grade. My dad was teaching in Malaysia for the semester. Mrs. Gibson put the cassette in and pressed play. About halfway into the movie, a song played; a lump formed in my throat.

Hearing it again today and remembering The End, I can’t help but smile.
