Don’t Hassle Me. I’m Local

Whether it’s a laughing chipmunk voice or a skit, local ads have a certain charm. Injured in an accident? Looking for new skills to advance your career? Then there are local television ads for you!

One thing that has surprised me about local television commercials is that they appear on cable networks. Often, one can see the tail end of a television promo following one of these commercials. In fact, local commercial insertions have become a popular way for cable companies to generate additional revenue. Indeed, there exist ad insertion technologies for both analog and digital stations that specify where such ads can be spliced into a broadcast. They’re huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge-a!

For those who want their ads to look professional, there are commercial donuts, which contain all the elements of a commercial except the product name. If one wants an ad to have a homemade quality, there are companies that offer those services, too.

With the Internet, many local ads are now reaching audiences well beyond their locales. Ah, what can you say about the Internet? It’s just like… it’s just like… a mini-mall!
