In Waiting for Godot, the two days Vladimir and Estragon spend waiting for Godot are fairly similar to each other. That said, they are different days. A few years ago, the music video for Craig David’s “Seven Days” showed David reliving the same day until he ended up with the girl in the video.
The plot may sound familiar to fans of Bill Murray’s Groundhog Day. The movie features Murray waking up every morning to relive February 2, 1993.
Reliving the same day can be a gift. The opportunity of getting a “do over” allows Murray to grow and learn from his experiences. Reliving the same day can also be a curse. Murray wants to escape February 2 and sometimes attempts desperate measures to do so.
While missed opportunities and failures can be devastating, new opportunities may be waiting around the corner. If one can learn and grow from previous experiences, then the new opportunities may present a way forward rather than a repeat of the past.
